FluiD

Christophe Gilmore, known by his stage name, ‘FluiD’, is a Kansas City, MO. based experimental and electronic hip-hop musician, sound-designer and cultural activist. A self-described, "Afro-futurist". His first album 'Warhol' was released was in 1988 and since that time has released over a dozen albums. His 2011 release, 'Envisioning Abstraction: the Duality of FluiD' (ALRN008), received international critical acclaim. FluiD's music, encompasses a multitude of styles and influences - techno, jazz, noise, classical avant-garde, hip-hop, psychedelia, metal, dub, early industrial and ambient. It is often referred to as "post industrial hip-hop". In addtion to his many releases, FluiD has also performed throughout North America and Central America, from concert halls to art galleries to dance clubs. He was also a featured performer at several music festivals including, 'experi-MENTAL Festival' (Brooklyn, NY.), 'Noise Shock: Abstract Art and Music Festival' (East Moline, IL.), 'Under the Radar - experimental/industrial/electronic music exposition' (Kansas City, MO.) and 'Spark: Festival of Electronic Music and Arts' (Minneapolis, MN.). Collaboration is very much a part of Christophe Gilmore's aesthetic sensibility, and some of his recent projects are collaborations. The video project 'Paramnesia I' was created by Heejoo Kim with Christophe Gilmore provding the sound-design and musical score. The video was nominated for Best Experimental Film at the Female Eye Film Festival (Toronto, Canada). Another recent collaboration was with Samantha Hill a transdisciplinary artist from Chicago, IL. Christophe provided the soundtrack to 'The Gift Project Chicago', an installation created by Samantha Hill based on the photography of Patrick McCoy. He has also collaborared wtih the Brooklyn, NY collective PAS. The results of that collaboratoin can be heard on the PAS release, 'PAS - Reconstruction' (ALRN023).
